BELLA’S COUNTRY HOUSE

Reflecting one corner of its history, and the passion of its current owners Murray and Nene Bell, Bella’s Country House has six suites named after famous Thoroughbred Racehorses.

Makybe Diva suite

The Melbourne Cup, the race that stops Australia each November, was won three times by the iron maiden Makybe Diva, who will hold a position in racing folk lore until the end of time.
The Makybe Diva suite is at positioned at the forefront of Bella’s and boasts a magnificent antique, hand-carved French bed from the Victorian era, together with complimentary French marble-topped bedside tables and dresser. This stylish suite has its own fireplace, central heating, plus ensuite bathroom with magnificent claw-foot bath.

Fields of Omagh

The Fields of Omagh story will become a timeless piece of Australian racing history, and your host Murray Bell was at the forefront of the story, having bought this grand galloper at auction as a yearling for his good friend Bryan Martin.

The Fields Of Omagh suite also offers a superb natural timber Queen-sized bed, luxurious deep mattress, its own open fireplace and ensuite bathroom.

SILENT WITNESS suite

The “Spirit of Hong Kong”, aka Silent Witness, lends his name to this spacious suite, which features a window looking out onto Bella’s magnificent gardens. Just as the champion Silent Witness was unbeatable in his first 17 races, so too will our clients find this suite unbeatable value with this suite, including its French antique, hand-carved bed from the Victorian era, together with complimentary French marble-topped bedside tables and another superb, antique dresser.

Brisies suite

Briseis won the Melbourne Cup just a few years before Bella’s Country House was built. She took her name from the Princess of Troy in Homer’s Iliad, with her extraordinary beauty and strength of character winning the heart of the mighty warrior Achilles. Briseis the racehorse won the Victoria Derby, the Melbourne Cup and the VRC Oaks in the space of five days in November, 1876, and we believe that famous treble will never, ever be repeated.

DANEHILL room

The mighty Thoroughbred stallion Danehill has truly done it all, the most successful sire the world has ever seen (300-plus stakeswinning sons and daughters) and has created a dynasty which will endure.

Perfect for travelling businessmen, or as a second room for travelling families, the Danehill room offers offers an antique natural timber double bed, quality mattress and access to separate bathroom.

BRADDOCK room

James J. Braddock was the heavyweight champion of the world in America during the Great Depression. He was an Irish-American hero of the working class, who clawed his way from the despair of the dole queue to his exalted champion status through sheer character, courage and determination without ever compromising his integrity.

Perfect for travelling businessmen, or as a second room for travelling families, the Braddock room offers offers an antique natural timber double bed, quality mattress and access to separate bathroom.
